The Promise That Had To Be Fulfilled To Help Women
Over 50 years ago, I made a promise to help women find a solution to rape, which is the drive behind the product Rape-axe, a female condom with interior barbs. I will share stories of my decade-long research and how this solution was born, even before the proper technology for it was available. My vision and passion to solve such a worldwide issue never dwindled. Today I continue to produce rape-ax in hopes that we can have a real conversation about the issue of rape, and focus on the safety of women. If we have safety, we can prevent rape, and the rape-axe is both a safety and prevention device.

Dr. Sonnet Ehlers was motivated to create it while working as a blood technician with the South African Blood Transfusion Service, during which time she met many rape victims. Ehler mentioned that she was inspired to create RAPE-aXe when a patient who had been raped stated, “If only I had teeth down there.”
